Dom Update / Couple Of Bets
Thoroughly enjoyed my week or so up in Dundee, did most of what I wanted to do, though Laura being ill for the last three or four days wasn’t ideal. I did get to spank Iain 6-2 at Klubiosh and go to Hamilton with Kenny and Will though, which was great fun. I particularly enjoyed the random old guy (Donald?) who was absolutely bizarre. I have totally stolen his “stand easy” catchphrase. He thought we were lawyers, kept asking us if we were “highly educated people” and called Kenny a “ruffian” as he wasn’t wearing a tie, absolutely ridiculous banter.
We didn’t have the best of days racing wise. Will had a minimum stakes winner in the opener, but after that, not a single scorer between us. Wee Charlie Castle in the last was disappointing, I even called it with half a furlong to go as it seemed untouchable, but the winner came out of nowhere and got up by a head. It clearly wasn’t going to be our night when Will missed the turn off and we got there later than planned, scuppering his chances to stalk Pixie Lott who was apparently playing before racing started. Not to worry, she’ll be in Sheffield when you all come down for the dogs.
Here's a little montage I put together, of Hamilton races. I wish I had quality video editing software. "I don't like cheese. Actually, I like cheese".
Welcome aboard Gav, I look forward to poker stories as well as acts of random, drunken tomfoolery. Scott, please don’t randomly invite any more people, as the bulk of this blog’s readers are DUPS types, there will soon be more contributors than viewers! I will see what I can do about trying to get an extra ticket for the dogs, to accommodate Gav. I’m delighted to see you’re all keen, I honestly didn’t think any of you would be. I promise it’ll be a great couple of days.
I never got chance to preview the Derby, which was a shame, but I backed Fame and Glory e/w at 4/1. Was delighted to see the money come for it, but Sea The Stars never looked troubled. At least I got my stakes returned. With me being on holiday then straight back to work, I’ve basically missed the whole of Royal Ascot too, which is a shame. Things have been quite busy at work lately, we’re getting a new starter tomorrow and I’m going to be his job instructor; that’ll be interesting!
Anyway, I’ve had a quick look at the racing today and I’ve got a bet that I like the look of. The 15:15 at Lingfield looks set up for Chjimes, in my opinion. The horse is unbeaten in three runs over course and distance and although the handicapper might well have hold of him now, it’s definitely worth an each way nibble at the current price (6/1 widely available, slightly bigger on the exchanges). The horse will be held up whilst the vast majority of the field will run prominently, which will ensure a strong pace. Hopefully the likes of Lochstar and Peak District will force the pace too much and burn out, allowing Chjimes in.
The other race I’m taking an interest in is the last at Wolverhampton. There’s a bloke comes in our shop who tipped up Exceed Elegance the other day after speaking to someone, I forget who (owner or trainer or something). I’m always wary of this type of chat, but we opened betting at 8/1 and it was heavily, heavily backed down to 3/1 before withdrawing as the ground was considered too firm. That is just weird for me. The word was that it would either run then or today and sure enough, Exceed Elegance has popped up in the 5.30 at Wolverhampton, priced around 9/2 at present. Most opened around 6/1, so money is already coming for it (I just managed to sneak a little bit on at 5/1). I can’t see much in the form to suggest it’ll win, but a move like that can’t be ignored, so I took a little e/w nibble.
15:15 Lingfield
Cjimes
1 pt e/w
17:30 Wolverhampton
Exceed Elegance
0.5 pts e/w

Frankie Jester
However I could have had the absolute lot. The Lester v. Osipczak fight wasn't televised and I'd made a point of not checking the result but as soon as Wilks won I was straight onto sherdog.com to check the result only to discover that Osipczak won by submission - seems Lester couldn't keep it standing. Very disappointed. Still, a profit on the night and so close to scooping.

Intro: Gav Brown
Hey all, right Scott gave me a shout about an hour ago if I fancied contributing to the blog and I happily agreed. Just finished playing for the night and shattered so will try and make this short one. Most of you all know me from poker at the union.
So just started playing poker full time last month and thought about writing a blog myself but just never really got round to it. So yeah as Scott mentioned staked/sponsored by pokerisk going well playing on Mansion. Ipoker is a bit of a nightmare but plenty of fish kicking about on there. Now be able to write about the ups and dows of playing so much poker.
As Scott said I’m always full of stories to tell usual bad beat/ cooler ones to be honest but there’s always the good ones too. Will try and post as often as I can with how im doing and any nice wins here and there. Hopefully going to start playing a lot more nicer live events too. Played the £200 event 1 of the GKUPT in Aberdeen on Thursday, was cruising till my KK ran into AA. I did hit my miracle K on the turn but my joy was short lived when the Ace of hearts about gave me a heart attack on the river to cripple me about half hour before end of play. Loved the experience tho and going to start playing a lot more events like this.
Getting late so going to get an early night for once as I never played any tourneys tonight just hammered the heads up sit n goes.

New Scoop Trooper: Gav Brown
So hopefully the next post on this blog will be Gav introducing himself - letting everyone know a bit about himself and what he plays etc. This will hopefully draw a few more poker readers to the blog.
That will bring us to 6 members which may seem a bit excessive but Will, Ken and Tim don't post too frequently so I still think it is a good number.
Dom, I'm mad for the Sheffield dogs - I'm going to calculate funds etc this week and confirm.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale & Big Bro
Having no internet or opportunity to bet for two weeks was absolute brutal and playing poker at night with a few people who had no idea what they were doing wasn't the greatest either. I'm mad for some live poker so I'll have to make do with the shitty £20f at the casino tomorrow. Will probably win.
First post back and I think I've found us some cracking value in the TUF Finale tomorrow night/Sunday morning. Frankie Lester put up a decent showing on the program despite losing twice to finalist James Wilks and he fights the Brit Nick Osipczak in the finale. I would like to see the British guy win but can't see it as I think it'll be a stand up fight and imo it looked like Nick might have a slightly suspect chin from what I've seen and Lester's heavy hands could lay him out. The bookies have this all wrong with Paddy Power going 13/8!!! Get on.
There is some other ridic value on the card with Ross Pearson 6/4 with SkyBet and James Wilks a huuuuuuuuuge 47/17 (wtf price) with expect.com - never heard of them and aint opening a new account so I'll just take 11/4 with Sky. Bookies are constantly getting these MMA fights wrong so lets make the most of the ridic value they are offering on even money shots.
As for Big Brother there is probably only a few who can win it from what I've seen - I've had a bit of success in the past with BB when I got on Brian Belo at a fairly big price last year. I've backed Charlie @ 12s, Angel @ 12s and Sree @ 33s.
GL all,
Scott
Almost forgot this comedy picture of Frankie Lester after losing 4 teeth in the first Wilks fight. This was after his teammates offered his money for every tooth of Wilks' he knocked out....

Steel City Cup - Dogs
The William Hill sponsored Steel City Cup is run at Sheffield's Owlerton stadium and I've got five tickets from work, for entry to the heats (24th July), the semis (28th July) and the final (4th August). The passes include a free racecard and a pint.
Anyone fancy a night out in Sheffield? There's a cheap Travelodge in the centre, can easy get a room there. If people are feeling flush enough, could maybe have a couple of nights and do something else (casino, Dusk Till Dawn, I dunno). I can easy enough get a few people out down here, but I'd much rather go with a bunch of dedicated gamblers who live and breathe the thrill of punting. It could be a good Scoop Troop night out.
Just an idea. Feedback welcome.
Is Scott still in Britain or has he fucked off? I bet he won't see this until he gets back, will he?
